About the PQE Courses
The Professional Qualifying Examinations are the main pathway to membership with the ICS and will provide you with full professional status. It is one of the world’s most recognisable qualifications and illustrates the developed knowledge and understanding of the commercial shipping industry.
To be eligible for membership, you will need to complete a total of seven papers. Four compulsory and three optional. This may be reduced by exceptions if you have other recognised maritime related qualifications.
By starting on the PQE it means you need to sit a minimum of two exams in your first year (one of which must be Shipping Business), and can choose how many to take thereafter from the Groups mentioned below. Once you have completed your PQEs you will be eligible to apply for membership with the Institute.
